See you in a week, Florida. It’s always a little weird going back to my birth state but I welcome the weirdness. Sort of like putting on a really old pair of shoes that you forgot you had even though you used to wear them every day. That’s a bad analogy.
Two entirely different places. Different time zones. Even the air is different. It’s not just the temperature. The way it feels moving over your skin. In the summer, the air in Florida is hot and moist. You can smell the earth and sky and plants and sometimes it’s salty from the ocean. Other times you smell rotting oranges from the Tropicana plant. It’s hard to explain. It just smells like Florida. Little things like that you don’t really think about until you’re transported from one environment in a giant metal flying machine and dropped into the other.

A little learning is a dangerous thing;
drink deep, or taste not the Pierian spring:
there shallow draughts intoxicate the brain,
and drinking largely sobers us again.
